Flagyl is a brand-name prescription antimicrobial used to treat bacterial infections of the heart, blood, nervous system, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, lungs, joints, bones, and skin. Extended-release metronidazole is commonly prescribed to treat bacterial vaginosis and sexually transmitted infections such as trichomoniasis.

As an antimicrobial, Flagyl cannot be used to treat viral infections. If Flagyl is being used to treat a sexually transmitted infection (like trichomoniasis), both sex partners should use the medication simultaneously. Flagyl is to be used only for adults and children under 12 years of age who have sex with males ( Sex partners who have been using metronidazole for at least 6 months, for 3 months or more, or for 6 months ), and for trichomoniasis ( Sex partners who have been using metronidazole for at least 10 days, for 2 days or for more than 2 days, or for 3 days, or for more than 3 days, or for more than 4 days, or for more than 5 days, or for more than 6 days, or for more than 7 days, or for more than 10 days, or for more than 10 days, or for more than 10 days.

Flagyl 400 400 mg is used to treat severe urethral and genital herpes infections. Flagyl 400 mg tablets are used to treat genital herpes infections (herpes zoster, herpes simplex, herpes zoster). It is used to prevent and treat genital herpes infection in adults. It may be used alone or in combination with other antiviral medications, to treat genital herpes infections. This medication is also used for the treatment of herpes simplex infections of the skin, including sores, ulcers, and infections caused by the herpes simplex virus.

This medication may be used for other treatmentoner or higher. Read this information carefully and consult with your doctor or pharmacist before using this medication.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, or stomach pain may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: new/new/blocked/new/woraster/new/pain/an allergic reaction, new/old/new/different side effect (such as new/different color/skin color), new/different taste/sound, new/different odor, new unpleasant side effect (such as new/different smell).

This drug may cause short term (even for very young children) or even permanent (people with sickle cell disease who take this medication have a rare disorder called leukemia).

This medication may cause serious (possibly fatal) allergic reactions. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist before taking this drug.

Seek emergency medical attention if the following appear (signs and symptoms): swollen eyes, face, tongue, or lymph nodes

  • breathing problems (excessive release of stomach acid)
  • feeling faint
  • feeling of others’ health
  • vision changes
  • severe skin rash or hives/itch
  • signs of liver problems (such as nausea/vomiting, fatigue, jaundice, chills)
  • trouble swallowing

Use of this drug for prolonged or repeated periods may result in the development of drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms, e.g., rash, fever, swelling of the legs or stomach, unusual tiredness, weakness, dizziness, hoarseness, difficulty in breathing.

This medication may cause yellowing of the skin and eyes.

Tell your doctor or dentist about this medication and any uses to obtain.

Steroidal cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitors, such as naproxen and other COX inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole), can cause serious problems in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. However, the risks to the baby are not very great. If you are planning a pregnancy and breast-feeding, do not stop using this drug without first getting medical advice first. Side effects from using this drug are not very desirable and should be reported to your health care provider immediately.

This drug may rarely cause problems in the heart, kidneys, and liver. In the case of these heart problems, your doctor may want to try and treat other problems that are probably the same with this drug.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
